From Dan’s Desk
This evening’s lesson begins the series of lessons on the fruit of the spirit from Galatians 5:22-23. It escapes me when I first heard this verse and began to learn about these concepts. There is so much to explore with these two verses.
The apostle Paul by inspiration first listed the deeds or works of the flesh to show the contrast with the godly fruit of the spirit. The attributes listed there are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
After listing these the apostle tells us that there is no law against these things. The inference is that there should not be, and that there is against the deeds of the flesh.
To most people it is obvious that one list is composed of things to avoid and the other list should be embraced and developed in the lives of faithful followers of the Lord.
Throughout the book of Galatians, God through Paul wants the First Century Christians to remember the gospel as it was first delivered to them and not to pay attention to anyone that might try to bring them a distorted version of the message.
There is great instruction throughout the letter to these Christians and much that can and should be learned and applied to the lives of Christians today.
Please plan to attend tonight as we begin the study and then the next several Sunday evenings. You are certainly encouraged to study for yourself as well.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
