Headlines, whether on the newspapers that are not as popular now, or the ones you see on digital ones are meant to grab your attention to the point that you will read the article. This has been a practice since written news has begun. The tradition has continued in our modern world of ‘click bait’ headlines. Put a headline that sounds interesting or far-fetched and someone or many somones will click and read the article.
I am not immune to this phenomenon any more than anyone else. Recently, there was one that popped up on Google that read “Is it Really Illegal to eat watermelon in this US City ’s Public Parks?”
Yep, I had to click and read the article. Here is the link if you are even a little curious:

Turns out someone was upset that the discarded watermelon rinds were ripping the trash can liners. Really. So, the city council put forth a law. Granted this law is probably not on the top of the list to be enforced by the local law officers, but it is a law.
What does this somewhat odd law have to do with anything spiritual? Well, it struck me that when man makes the rules or laws they may seem rather mundane or downright silly.
In stark contrast, the wisdom of God is on display when He decrees His law, His commands. The things of God are not frivolous or mundane. The commands of God, when followed properly, will always be for the good of anyone who is obedient to them.
God’s blessings will flow into the life of a faithful Christian. The commands of God are not burdensome, and following them is the only way a person can reciprocate the love of God (1 John 5:3; John 14:15).
Man-made laws are not always for the good of everyone, but the laws of God always will be for our good. May more and more people come to acknowledge HIm and be obedient to His commands.
May the headline of our lives be this: ‘A faithful follower of God’
