When I was in the 4th grade there was a history lesson assignment where the student had to pick a person and write a report about them. I chose Thomas Jefferson.

Not because he was a president and not because of all the things he invented. The reason was the work he did to help create the Declaration of Independence.

This document is one of significant importance in the history of our country, the USA. The words conveyed to the British King had to be precise. There could be no mistaking the intent of the colonists to be free from his reign.

The words were carefully chosen to impart the meaning clearly and very eloquently. You are encouraged to read the document and note the language and the urgency of it.

There is another important message that is even more important in the history of mankind. That message has been preserved for all of us to know. That vital message, you may have guessed, is the one that God has revealed in His Holy Word, the Bible.

As important as the Declaration of Independence is to America, the Bible is far more important. The colonists wanted to be free from the King’s rule. The Bible allows anyone to be free from the rule of satan, the rule of the world. The Lord Jesus said that we can know the truth and it will make us free (John 8:32). It is great that the colonists wanted to be a free country. It is even greater when a soul/person decides to be free from the bondage of sin. May we all embrace the freedom that is in Christ.
