Historic Meetings

August 17, 20252 min read

The two top officials of the United States and Russia met and discussed some very serious topics. Presidents Trump and Putin were the two who met and this was called a historical event. In fact, some mentioned how long it had been since their last meeting and after the meeting the things discussed were explained by the various news sources. The point is not what they discussed, but that it was seen as a significant event in history. There may be some major developments for Russia and Ukraine because of this meeting.

The way the event was viewed brought to my mind how a person could look at the various meetings between two individuals in the pages of the Bible. The Bible is a wonderful book, really a compilation of 66 books, and details many such meetings. There is not enough space here to note all of them. Here a just a few: God and Adam, Cain and Abel, Abraham and God, Noah and God, Moses and God, Nathan and David, Philip and Peter, Jesus and Matthew, Jesus and Zaccheus, Jesus and the Samaritan woman, Jesus and Nicodemus, Jesus and Martha, Jesus and Saul of Tarsus, and the list could go on and on.

Those meetings did not grab international headlines or be featured in the various social media outlets, but they are even more significant than the meeting in Alaska. The meeting between Trump and Putin will be judged by history. The meetings described for us in the Bible can and do have eternal consequences. Through those meetings recorded in the Holy Bible, we can understand the nature of God and see how we should revere, honor, and obey Him as so many people have done before.

Nothing wrong with being interested in the affairs of the world. However, may we always be more interested in the things of God (1 John 2:15-17; Matthew 6:33). This world will one day be gone and everyone including leaders of countries will stand before the judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). May all of us be even more focused on the accounts found in the Bible even more each day. Studying, learning, and obeying the commands in order to be right in the sight of God in Christ.
