Spiritual Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

November 23, 20252 min read

Last week’s article spoke of what memories this year has brought to you. Hopefully, this week you will be able to make some good family and friend memories. This coming Thursday in the USA many will celebrate Thanksgiving. A time to celebrate the harvest and feast on the bounty that God provides. At least that is the traditional thought.

The reality is that many will watch a parade and football while feasting on turkey, stuffing, and all the trimmings. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself. There is a tradition that some families perform that seems most appropriate.

As the feast is about to begin some families (mine included) will go around the table and say they are thankful for any number of things. Okay, sometimes, this happens after we eat. But, it still happens.

This is something this old papa looks forward to more as the years go by. It seems that more and more, people are busier and busier. Really in some ways, busy just to be busy, in my opinion. It is really good to stop and reflect on how many blessings for which a person should be grateful.

Being thankful for Christians should not be a one time event or at a particular time of year. It should be every day. Consider these passages:

Psalms 50:14a Of er to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving

Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Psalms 30:4 Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name.

There are many more. May we all be thankful to Him from whom all blessings flow. Today and every day. Be thankful, be grateful. From my family to yours, have a great week in God’s care. Please know that I am thankful for all you.
