Year End Memories
Well this year is quickly coming to an end. How has this last year affected your life? I think it would be interesting to take a few minutes and think back to what you have experienced each month in 2025.
What were the highlights of the year, or each month for you?
Every person will have different memories of course. And some of you, some of us, have some memories that we have shared.
It is interesting to me how the Holy Spirit instructed many of the writers to recap certain events. There is Moses recounting how God led the Children of Israel out of Egypt. This same thing is recapped in the Psalms and other places as well. Stephen does a great job in summing up God’s plan in Acts 7. The response was not a receptive one, but those people heard the truth. The apostle Paul gives examples of the stubbornness of God’s people in 1 Corinthians 10 and how we should not follow their example of disobedience.
What could a person say about you and your attitude and actions toward God? Would your life this year be an example to follow or one to avoid? Self-examination is meant to be probing and direct.
Christians are to be self-disciplined people. People who actively seek to be what God would have them to be in a constant and consistent manner.
We may easily recount highlights that include vacations, fun times, family excursions, and watching our children (and grandchildren) grow before our eyes. Those things are good and right to do. However, another focused reflection should be made on how we have attempted to draw closer to God in some way.
So, would your memories include the spiritual things you did? Can you see growth in your Christian walk? Have you intentionally sought the Lord God of Heaven more? Those are things that are the most important. The beauty of this approach is that as a person becomes closer to the Heavenly Father through Christ, the other things become even more pleasing to them. God intends for us to have the best life on this earth. The best life is one that is wholly focused on Him. May we all heed the words of Ecclesiastes 12:13-14- The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.
